About me
Welcome to my web page. My name is Dorothy Nicolle and I live in the beautiful county of Shropshire
in the heart of England.
Can there be any better way to earn a living than by doing something that you enjoy and sharing
the enjoyment with others? I have always been fascinated by Britain and its history and studied the
subject at Leicester University where I gained an Honours Degree in British Archaeology and History.
Today I share my interests with visitors and local people alike, through guided tours and talks.
I have been a Blue Badge Guide for the Heart of England region for over 20 years although I have
tended to specialise in Shropshire and its adjacent counties. I am also a member of the Institute of
Tourist Guiding.
As a result of my guiding and talks I was asked, some years ago to write a book on Shropshire for the
Francis Frith Book Company. This led to further books so that I have now written over 30 books altogether
- all of them dealing with local and general history subjects.
About the Blue Badge
The Blue Badge is the UK's highest tourist guiding qualification and is recognised internationally.
It is awarded only to those guides who have undergone a detailed and comprehensive training in subjects
ranging from Britain's history, architecture, art and literature to industrial heritage and natural history.
